Integrated medical support plans for protected are

Integrated medical support plans for protected areas are crucial to ensure the well-being and effectiveness of rangers and management.

We recently conducted scenario testing and refresher training in South Africa, where we focused on crisis management using enabling tools including @earthrangertech, followed by a visit to the Lower Zambezi region where we are assisting partners with the development of a strategic medical support plan for the landscape.

At the core of our approach is ensuring resilient systems are in place at every level; through tiered training, equipment, and as part of a network into national health infrastructure and emergency support.

These efforts not only safeguard rangers in emergencies but build trust and enables agile decision-making while further supporting preventative health initiatives.

WORLD RANGER DAY

Today Resolve Wildlife stands with rangers worldwide as we strive to support the ambitious ‘30 by 30’ goals.

Rangers are at the heart of our conservation efforts, and that’s why we’re committed to ensuring they have the necessary tools, support and skills they need to succeed.

Working by, with and through local communities and partners, we are driven to build stronger, more resilient rangers, ready to meet the challenges of the 21st Century for enduring impact.

The @international_ranger_fed @gamerangersassociationofafrica 2024 roll of honour is a stark reminder of the realities faced by rangers every day.

Today, we pause with others across the globe in Rememberance of all who have lost their lives on the frontlines of conservation; sacrificing their today for our tomorrow.

We are equally privileged to celebrate their efforts, and to work alongside these incredible men and women working tirelessly to meet the 30 by 30 goals.

TRAIN - ADVISE - ASSIST

Over the last year, Resolve Wildlife has been pioneering a village dog programme with DNPW and @conservation_lower_zambezi in Zambia.

We are now in the throes of validating the effectiveness of the dogs and programme as a whole by comparing the working performance of the two village dogs (Canus africanis) against two, equally-trained and operational antipoaching Belgian Malinois.

The idea behind the village dogs is that this local breed may be genetically predisposed to coping better with local conditions such as climate and local diseases including Trypanosomiasis (transmitted by tsetse fly and potentially fatal to domestic livestock), and make K9 capability more accessible and sustainable for conservation partners.

Insights from this programme aim to inform similar programmes and the wider sector about the potential of using local dogs in similar roles including illegal wildlife trade detection and counter-poaching tracking operations, especially where conditions may be limiting for the imported, double-coated breeds.

Thanks to the support of @elephantsief , we will be publishing a research paper on this pioneering effort later this year.
